D'Banj, Majek, and others celebrate Fela at 70

Right from Tuesday the 14th of October, the African Shrine has been a bee hive of activities to mark the 70th birthday of the legendary Afrobeat creator Fela Anikulapo Kuti..these activities came to a climax with a closing concert held at the shrine on sunday night.

It all started on tuesday with an opening show which featured documentaries on the legend, his pictures, a celebrity quiz and Afrocentric music.

The show continued on wednesday, 15th October with a 'Ladies toast to Baba @ 70' show

Thursday, 16th October was the classic nite which featured some Highlife, some Juju and some fuji music with a stunning performance from our very youthful 85 year old Fatai Rolling Dollar.

It was the turn of the new generation musicians on friday to pay their own tribute to Abami Eda with a mixture of R&B, Hip-Hop music...

The eve of the closing concert was the roadshow/street carnival and a host of performances by some naija artistes and foreigners alike.

Azadus was one of the best if not best reggae musician, Majek Fashek who did two songs to the awe of the audience before doing Bob Marley's legendary track, 'Redemption Song'.

After a brief interlude with Raypower's DJ Neptune at the wheels of steel, Sasha came on stage and performed, after performing her songs, the honours of ushering in the Mo'Hits crew. Consisting of D'Banj, Don Jazzy, Wande Coal and Ikechukwu, the Mo'Hits crew gave the most electrifying performance of the night.

As the night wore on, the audience got to see a wide variety of artistes who gave them no dull moment...performances from the likes of Mr. Cool, Olu Maintain, Eedris Abdulkareem, Nigga Raw, Durrella, Black Solo, Bigiano and Black Face Naija only added glamour to the show.

The show rounded up a week long celebration of Fela Anikulapo Kuti who was born on October 15 of 1938 and died eleven years ago on August 2nd, 1997.
