Nigerians at Nottinghill Carnival 08

As expected, Nigeria recorded a huge turnout at this year’s Nottinghill carnival. But, for the second year running, police would just not leave the green-white-green gathering alone to soak in the fun and get on with the groove.

In 2007, officers from the Metropolitan Police cordoned off Cambridge Gardens, the usual meeting point for Nigerians. Carnival-goers from the country that year wandered around aimlessly, with no float to follow. This year, there were at least two major meeting points for Nigerians: The AIT stand and the Blackknights/Grafton stand.

But, it was the latter, situated along Westbourne Park Road, that attracted heavy crowds, including many celebrities from Nigeria. The music was setting the crowd on fire, and many more joined in the fun.

Nearly two million fun-seekers attended the two-day street party this year.

Nigeria U-23 Obinna Nsofor on Brink of Joining Everton F.C.

Victor Obinna Nsofor's display at the Olympics, which led to a silver medal with Dream Team IV, might seen him join three other Nigerians at Everton including U-23 national team mate Victor Anichebe.

The move to Goodison Park however is subject to Nsofor getting a UK Work Permit to complete a loan move to the Toffees just days after joining Inter Milan on a full transfer from Chievo Verona.

But with the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Julio Cruz and Hernan Crespo among others ahead in the pecking order, a loan move to Goodison Park would be the ideal option for the 21 year old.

Should the deal come through in time, Nsofor could also be available for the Toffees as early as this weekend when Everton hosts bottom of the table Portsmouth that has Nwankwo Kanu and John Utaka in its squad.

The striker scored two goals for Nigeria's Dream Team IV on their way to silver at the Games male football event won by Argentina.

EFCC BUST NIGERIAN 419 SCAMMERS

419 fraud is a confidence trick in which the target is persuaded to advance sums of money in the hope of realizing a very much larger gain.

The 419 scam originated in the early 1980s as the oil-based Nigerian economy declined. Several unemployed university students first used this scam as a means of manipulating business visitors interested in shady deals in the Nigerian oil sector before targeting businessmen in the west, and later the wider population.
